"My Insurance Will Not Cover the Cost "

Another misperception is that insurance companies will not cover medical care while on a trial.  Study drugs on experimental trials are provided free by the trial sponsor.   FDA approved drugs being used in new combinations on investigational trials are also provided free by the trial sponsor.   Routine medical care, such as doctor visits, hospital stays, and routine blood work are usually covered by insurance.  Tests required for the protocol beyond routine medical care, such as extra scans and EKGs are provided free by the trial sponsor.   For a more detailed understanding of clinical trial coverage by insurance companies see the web site section under insurance coverage of trials.
