Medical Oncologist

A medical oncologist is frequently the first oncology specialist a patient consults with when they or their general physician suspect they could have cancer. These doctors are involved in coordinating all aspects of their patients’ care in a team that can also include pathologists and social workers. Medical oncologists diagnose and treat all forms of cancer that occur in any part of the body, and they have a broad range of expertise within the cancer specialty.

A new patient could present with symptoms like pain, weight loss or a lump they found somewhere in their body. The medical oncologists will assess the patient, order appropriate tests and then make a definitive diagnosis based on these findings.
